The federal Department of Canadian Heritage's Museums Assistance Program
main deadline is November 1, 2014
The Museums Assistance Program (MAP) provides financial assistance to
eligible Canadian museums and related institutions undertaking projects in
three main components:
Access to Heritage - development and circulation of travelling
exhibitions (must be travelling to at least one other confirmed
venue)
Aboriginal Heritage - preservation and presentation of Aboriginal
cultural heritage
Collections Management - implementation of key collections management
systems or sharing best practices related to key museum functions to
the benefit of at least three institutions
The 2015-16 Guidelines are now available at
www.pch.gc.ca/eng/1268597502197/1268597587817 for projects starting in the
April 1, 2015 - March 31, 2016 federal fiscal year.
Please read the guidelines carefully, especially the "What's New" section.
Highlights include:
Priority will be given to projects that relate to key events, people
and objects that have shaped Canada's history and identity and have
significant anniversaries in the next two years, such as World War l,
Women's Suffrage, and World War ll.
Applications will be accepted year-round from large and small museums
for funding to borrow artefact(s) from the Canadian Museum of
Civilization and the Canadian War Museum.
Travelling exhibitions are now eligible to travel within the
originating province/territory.
The minimum general applicant eligibility is: must be open to the public
year-round, have the equivalent of one full-time paid professional museum
staff, have policies for key museum functions, and have a current 3 to 5
year strategic plan. For the Aboriginal Heritage component, Aboriginal
governments and other Aboriginal organizations with a mandate to preserve
and support Aboriginal heritage are eligible to apply for projects to
preserve, present and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage.
To receive the application forms, potential applicants must first discuss
their proposed project with either of Western Region's MAP program
officers: Colleen Craig at colleen.craig at pch.gc.ca or 604-666-3438 or
Georgina Nicloux at georgina.nicloux at pch.gc.ca or 403-389-9589. This is to
confirm both applicant and project eligibility and then discuss how to best
strengthen the application to fit program objectives.
As the deadline date falls on a weekend, applications sent by mail must be
postmarked on or before the next business day which is Monday, November 3,
