[CDNV_DISTRICT_HALL-#2245163-v1-nvma_badge_180_x_125_jpg] COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CURATOR
(1-year term)
The North Vancouver Museum & Archives Commission has a vision to engage, strengthen and inspire our community and its visitors by exploring history, connecting people and sharing ideas. We are working to create a New Museum (planned opening mid-2017) that is a dynamic and innovative history centre and becomes a focal point of community life on the North Shore.
We are seeking a creative, experienced individual to fill a one-year term position, four days per week, as a Community Engagement Curator. Reporting to the NVMA's Assistant Director, the individual will be responsible for strengthening and expanding relationships between the NVMA and the community by spearheading a project that solicits community-contributed content for a non-traditional history of North Vancouver to coincide with the community's 125th anniversary.
The Community Engagement Curator will publicize and coordinate the project (tentatively titled NorthVan125), establish a project Advisory Group, organize facilitated writing/contribution sessions, assemble and scan contributed materials, assist volunteers with oral history interviews, train NVMA staff and Commissioners in engagement techniques, curate an online exhibit of contributed materials (working with a web designer), and liaise with the author (Daniel Francis) and publisher (Harbour Publishing) of a non-traditional, book-length history of North Vancouver to be published in 2016 on the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the District of North Vancouver.
Summary of Duties
* Complete an environmental scan to identify leading practices in community/museum engagement and collaboration.
* Share current best practices in community/museum engagement with NVMA staff, Commissioners, Campaign Cabinet, and Friends Society Board members and help embed these practices in ongoing NVMA operations.

* Create a project plan, timeline, budget, and evaluation matrix in consultation with NVMA staff.
* Create a promotional plan for the project, including writing press materials.
* Design an online communications "hub" for community members to share their ideas, stories, and project submissions.
* Design and facilitate community workshops (in partnership with other community organizations) and events that create awareness of the project, generate media coverage, and solicit input.
* Organize and archive all community contributions (e.g. stories, photographs, artifacts, ephemera, documents, oral histories, etc.) to the North Van 125 project.
* Collect and curate content for an online exhibit that will provide diverse, cross-generational, cross-cultural personal views of North Vancouver's community history.
* Liaise with the author of the NorthVan125 book, as needed.
* Do photo research, and copyright clearance, as needed.
* Debrief and evaluate NorthVan125 project with NVMA staff and Community Advisory Group.
* Collaborate with supervisor and NVMA Director to formulate future community engagement programs that will reach New Museum audiences.
Desired Experience, Qualifications and Skills
* Minimum of two years' experience in educational outreach, community development, program coordination, museum work or related experience.

* Excellent verbal and written communication.

* Self-sufficient in routine office administration tasks, including correspondence, record-keeping, preparing presentations and working with the MS-Office suite of applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

* Experience, or ability to be trained, in scanning visual and textual materials and submitting formatted materials to a web designer.
* Strong knowledge of the online environment, including experience using major social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others).
