Hi Tammy,
For a stunning touch-screen display that would well suit a Sports Hall of Fame, check out one at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. On a large vertical screen, there is a constant descent of small circular frames with photos and names of historic Seattle people of all sorts. On can touch any “bubble” and a frozen frame will display the basic story of that person. A video touch button in the frame opens a video re-enactment of something from the person’s life. The basic screen with descending photos looks like a gentle snow storm. It is terribly intuitive and simple to use, and deeply engaged everyone I saw passing through that gallery.

I understand that a museum in New Zealand contacted MOHAI about the program and now has the same thing operating there. I intend to do the same and will let you know what I discover. I would appreciate comments if anyone on this list knows about the program accessibility.

Subject: [BCMA] Interactive Displays

Hi, Everyone,

I have somehow managed to get co-opted onto a committee working to establish a local Sports Wall of Fame. They have plans for an interactive digital format presented on a touch-screen monitor, with sections for the history of various sports and sports facilities and biographies of the inductees. The idea is that viewers can choose which sports or which people they want to learn about by touching menu options. The committee talks about a website, but I think that might be non-techie speak and that it wouldn’t necessarily need Internet access as long as all the content is accessible in one unit. The content will include text, still photos, and video I’m assuming there will be audio associated with some of them), and it will be displayed indoors at the local Rec Centre.

Does anyone have any experience with display units like this? Any lessons-learned advice, awesome suppliers, etc to suggest?

Thanks!

Tammy
