Hi Tammy,
It looks like you have a lot of suggestions to work with, however, I wanted
to bring your attention to an app that may be of use. While interning in
the web department at the ROM, I learned about their use of technology in
exhibition spaces. In order to offer the best digital experience for
visitors, they use an app called Kiosk Pro. While it has many great
features, you may be interested in its online/offline function. It
essentially stores content on the device, which is helpful if it
disconnects from the wifi or if it won't be connected to the internet at
all. I'm not sure if this would work for the touch screens that you'll be
using, but it's definitely worth looking into.
Here is a link to the website: http://www.kioskproapp.com
Also, I recently worked on the early stages of a complete redevelopment of
a small house museum. Because much of the content will be in the form of
historic audio clips and videos, I recommended they develop a website using
Squarespace to host the content. I also suggested they use Kiosk Pro so the
website can be in offline mode. This worked well for them because they do
not have in-house programmers or a large enough budget to develop an app or
the standard for such technology.
I hope this information helps! If you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Good luck with your project!
All the best,
