The Haida Gwaii Museum and Parks Canada have selected three artistsfor 
the 2015 /Artists in Gwaii Haanas**/artist residency program. The artist 
are Kathy Pick ( Queen Charlotte), Rosa Quintana (Agassiz) and Mike 
Miles( Victoria)

Haida Gwaii artist *Kathy Pick* current work involves reusing materials 
or gathering sustainable materials such as grasses, willow, pine, cedar 
barks and kelp to create site-specific art works.

*Rosa Quintana Lillo*works on mixed media paintings out of her studios 
in Vancouver and Agassiz, British Columbia. Her paintings deal with  the 
abstracted landscape itspatterns, textures, colour, mood and the life of 
birds. Victoria-based artist, *Matt Miles* works in a variety of visual 
and audiomediums ranging from live interactive sound installation pieces 
to sound design, music video productions, cultural documentary and short 
experimental video works.

In June 2015, the visual artists will spend 5-10 daysimmersed in the 
natural & breathtaking “islands of beauty,” based at a remote field-camp 
in Gwaii Haanas. This year’s theme is “Gwaii Haanas: land, sea, people 
connections”, marking a new planning phase for Gwaii Haanas

While in Gwaii Haanas, the artists will undertake “artistic research” by 
exploring, photographing, sketching, and writing about their natural 
surroundings, interactions with wildlife, Parks Canada staff and Haida 
Gwaii Watchmen. The artists will form connections through art to Gwaii 
Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, 
and Haida Heritage Site.

The visiting artists will also lead a pre-trip workshop to share skills 
or techniques with the local artist community on Haida Gwaii, and give 
presentations to the public when they return from Gwaii Haanas.The 
artists will also participate in a 2- week residency at the Haida Gwaii 
Museum, where artists will work on creations inspired by their trip and 
interact with museum visitors.
