We are pleased to announce that 5 artists have been selected to receive a travel/study grant as part of our inaugural Masterpiece Study Program (http://yvraf.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d965920549e117ab677d052ea&id=1d8350f107&e=a4b47bb486) .

The Masterpiece Study Program grants provide a unique opportunity for BC First Nations artists to travel to museums to study rare collections of First Nations art.

(Please note–our next call for applications for the Masterpiece Study Program grants will be announced in August 2015)


Congratulations to the following artists:

Lydia Brown (Coast Salish) lives in Vancouver, BC, and is studying Coast Salish art and design at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.

Tyson Brown (Haida) lives in White Rock, BC, and is studying Haida, Tsimshian, and Tlingit collections at the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria

Bracken Corlett (Wuikinuxv) lives in Gibsons, BC, and is studying Wuikinuxv pieces as well as works from Klahoose (Northern Coast Salish) and Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw (Kwakwaka'wakw) at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.

Ariane Medley (Haida) lives in Masset, BC, and is studying a collection of Haida weavings, with a focus on spruce root hats and baskets, at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver

Marika Swan (Gitxsan) lives in Tofino, BC, and is studying Nuu-chah-nulth artifacts, with a particular interest in model canoes, paddles, ceremonial masks, and regalia at the Museum of Vancouver and the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.
