/ARTISTS IN GWAII HAANAS RESIDENCY PROGRAM – June 2016/

The Haida Gwaii Museum and Parks Canada are inviting professional visual 
artists to apply to the /Artists in Gwaii Hannas Residency Program,/ a 
unique artistic experience that offers opportunities to learn, share, 
collaborate and explore creative possibilities through visual art while 
in the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation 
Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site.

Three visual artists will be selected to spend 5-10 days immersed in the 
natural & breathtaking islands of beauty based at a remote field-camp in 
Gwaii Haanas. While in Gwaii Haanas, artists will undertake artistic 
research by exploring, photographing, sketching, and writing about their 
natural surroundings, interactions with wildlife, Parks Canada staff and 
Haida Gwaii Watchmen. These observations will inspire their art, and the 
works created will help other Canadians learn about Gwaii Haanas.

The visiting artists will lead a pre-trip workshop to share skills or 
techniques with the local artistic community on Haida Gwaii, and make 
presentations to the public when they return from Gwaii Haanas.The 
artists will also participate in a (1-2)week residency at the Haida 
Gwaii Museum, where artists will work on creations inspired by their 
trip and interact with museum visitors.

All applications must arrive _by_ this date. Electronic submissions are 
encouraged. **It is strongly advised that mailed/couriered applications 
are sent two weeks prior to the deadline to ensure on-time arrival on 
Haida Gwaii.Please thoroughly read the program information found in the 
package prior to filling out this application. All applicants will be 
reviewed by a committee consisting of representatives from the Haida 
Nation, Parks Canada and the Haida Gwaii Museum. Selections will be made 
within four weeks after the deadline.
