*please excuse the cross-postings

Due to an unforeseen delay in printing the new textbooks, the previously
scheduled distance education course "Oral History: From Theory to Practice"
will be delayed until May 2016. *Registration for this course will start in
March 2016.*

In its place the AABC will be offering the popular course *"Introduction to
Archival Preservation"* from January 4 - March 14, 2016.

Using the textbook *Preserving Archives and Manuscripts *by Mary Lynn
Ritzenthaler (2010) students will be introduced to archival preservation in
seven modules over the 10 week length of the course. Topics will include
concepts and terminology in archival preservation; basic material science
of paper records and photographs; basic material science of machine
readable records and electronic media; concepts for understanding design
requirements for archives buildings and storage environments; the
exhibition of archival records; emergency planning; and preservation
management planning.

The textbook will be supplemented with articles, survey tools and condition
reporting assessments available on the Internet. A self-study guide will
lead the students through each module where they will complete questions
and practical projects that are submitted to the Instructor for evaluation.

At the end of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion.
Students can expect to work 10-12 hours a week for the duration of the
course.

Cost: $350CAD for AABC Members; $500CAD for Non-members
