The Department of Canadian Heritage's Museums Assistance Program (MAP) main
deadline is November 1, 2015 for projects starting in the 2016-17 federal
fiscal year (April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017).
MAP can provide financial assistance to eligible Canadian museums and
related institutions undertaking projects in three main components:
Access to Heritage - development and circulation of travelling
exhibitions (must be travelling to at least one other confirmed
venue)
Aboriginal Heritage - preservation and presentation of Aboriginal
cultural heritage
Collections Management - implementation of key collections management
systems or sharing best practices related to key museum functions to
the benefit of at least three institutions
Eligibility requirements depend on the component, but minimum general
applicant eligibility is that the museum must:
be open to the public year-round
have the equivalent of one full-time paid professional museum staff
have policies for key museum functions
have a current 3 to 5 year strategic plan
For the Aboriginal Heritage component, Aboriginal governments and other
Aboriginal organizations with a mandate to preserve and support Aboriginal
heritage are eligible to apply for projects to preserve, present and manage
Aboriginal cultural heritage.
Due to technical problems, we are temporarily unable to publish the 2016-17
Guidelines on the website. This should be fixed shortly. In the meantime,
please find the guidelines attached here:
(See attached file: MAP Guidelines 2016-17.docx)
To receive the application forms, potential applicants must first discuss
their proposed project with a Western Region MAP program officer. This is
to confirm both applicant and project eligibility and then discuss how to
best strengthen the application to fit program objectives. Please contact
Colleen Craig at colleen.craig at pch.gc.ca or 604-666-3438 or Pierre Stolte
at pierre.stolte at pch.gc.ca or 604-666-2218.
As the deadline date falls on a weekend this year, applications sent by
mail must be postmarked on or before the next business day which is Monday,
November 2, 2015. The mailing address is:
Canadian Heritage
351 Abbott Street
Vancouver, BC

Applications can be sent electronically. If emailing, the application must
