(with annual increases to $74,351)

The Royal British Columbia Museum and Archives is one of Canada's great cultural treasures. Our collections, research and presentations enable us to tell the stories of BC in ways that enlighten, stimulate and inspire.

Reporting to the Head of Archives, Access and Digital Services, the Archives Manager collaborates as part of a diverse management team.  This position requires someone that is proactive and self-motivated and has an in-depth understanding of archives and standards with a keen eye on where the field is going.

The Archives Manager provides leadership for the BC Archives as well as knowledge and expertise on the collection.  The incumbent is an ambassador in the community, creating and nurturing partnerships and connections and developing archives-related programs, projects and services designed to engage existing and new audiences.  The position manages and mentors a team of archivists and access staff and oversees all activities associated with public access to the collection.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and operational implementer with responsibility to implement a long term plan for the BC Archives.  As well as keeping current on trends, standards and emerging technologies that will impact archival work and the future of the archives.

This position requires stellar interpersonal skills to lead a team, work with peers and engage with outside groups.  This includes providing recommendations to management regarding acquisition, care, engagement with and access to the archives and collection.

You hold a Masters' degree in Archival Studies or Library & Information Science with a specialty in archives and three years' experience in an archival organization leading staff.  You have knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Document Disposal Act, and new legislation Information Management Act and other policies and procedures related to the collection, use and disclosure of information.  This is supplemented with an understanding of both digitized and born-digital medium and a strong understanding of current and emerging trends in archives and how to incorporate them into planning.
