Position: Curatorial Assistant
Delta, BC V4K 2V2



The Delta Museum and Archives Society (DMAS) is seeking a temporary (summer
- 12 weeks), full time (35 hrs/week) Curatorial Assistant. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Assisting in the inventory of the museum collection including: 
- Comparing the existing database against artifacts found in situ by
location 
- Noting discrepancies 
- Repairing and maintaining the database information as required 
- Writing reports indicating necessary future action 
- Assisting in the packing and care of museum artifacts in preparation for
moving them to a warehouse 
- Implementing a system for tracking boxes while in transit 
- Proper care and handling of artifacts while interacting with the
collection 
- Assisting in receipt and accessioning of donated items, including how to
keep track of them through the move 
- Tracking of supplies 
- Ensuring correct location of artifacts once moved to the warehouse 
- Assisting in the development and implementation of a manner for tracking
display support and building supplies 
- Assisting in the development of a protocol for the development of exhibits
in a yet to be determined location 
- Developing a list of contacts for people with specific historical
knowledge 

Qualifications: 
- Candidate must have been a full-time student during the last academic year
and be returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2016. 
- Interest in the history of Canada, BC, and the Lower Mainland an asset; 
- Required enrollment in Museum Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, History,
Biology or Ecology program; 
- Experience identifying, caring for and handling antiques and / or
artifacts 
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task,
work will independently and as part of a team; 
- A valid BC drivers' license is required with access to a vehicle (to move
between sites); 
- Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs; 
- Able to work in cramped, dusty conditions 
- As this position may require interaction with the public, a criminal
records check will be required; 
- Applicant must be legally entitled to work in Canada and fulfill the
requirements of the granting agencies. 

Terms of Employment: May 9 - July 29, 2016 with the regular work week Monday
- Friday with the occasional Saturday as required 
Work hours are 9:00am - 4:30pm 
Rate of pay: $14.35/hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation 
All DMAS summer student employees are members of CUPE Local 454
