[BCMA] Registration reminder for the Provincial Digital Library May 10th Symposium

The event is a one-day symposium about planning for a potential "Public Digital Library"  - a provincial storehouse of knowledge of digital content from archives, museums, libraries and universities. For those of you who haven't heard about this project, the first phase began with post-secondary institutions, and database/search site called Arca<http://arcabc.ca/>. We're now beginning the second stage to extend to archives, museums and libraries. There is BC Government<https://news.gov.bc.ca/stories/core-review-strengthens-private-institutions-libraries-and-international-education> funding behind project, so it presents a good opportunity for AABC members.

More background:

In April 2014, the BC Government announced the creation of a Provincial Digital Library (PDL).  A PDL could be conceptualized as a phased, multi-year project, guided by an over-arching vision of access to the intellectual, historical and cultural record of the Province for the people of British Columbia. In its simplest form, a PDL's intent is to provide access to a range of materials that may enrich the intellectual and leisure life of a citizen, showcase the contributions of individuals, organizations and government, and contribute to the economic well- being of the province.

Since the announcement, work has begun to define what a PDL could provide, an environmental scan has been undertaken to determine what digitization initiatives are currently in place in the Province, and a collaborative digital repository (Arca) within the post-secondary sector has been established.
