For Immediate Release
Immerse Yourself in Art and Nature with the Robert Bateman Centre’s Upcoming Programs
August 20, 2016, Victoria, BC - Nature’s beauty and power is ingrained in our culture. At the Robert Bateman Centre, we are inspiring a lasting relationship with nature through the lens of art, and are currently one of the only non-profits in Canada primarily using artwork to promote a connection to nature and the environment. We create programs and exhibits to inspire a generation of people to have a reverence for nature. We are proud to announce two upcoming programs at the Centre: the Natural Connection Tours and the fall Junior NatureSketch Club.
Feed Your Heart, Soul, Belly, and Mind with the Natural Connection Tours
Take a vacation from your busy life and get out into nature with the Natural Connection Tours. Join Ryan Leblanc for a memorable stress-free day of hiking in some of the most incredible places on Vancouver Island combined with an outdoor art lesson with one of the Robert Bateman Centre’s skilled artists and delicious artisan food. Throughout these full day adventures, guests will be physically, mentally and artistically connected to the natural world around them.
Sites include:
Matheson Lake & Roche Cove, August 24th
Matheson Lake Regional Park is a quiet oasis set amongst a thick rainforest at the base of a steep coastal mountain. The park encompasses 157 hectares that includes a fresh-water lake and heavily forested terrain at the base of Mount Matheson in Metchosin, BColu. A 3.4km loop trail surrounds Matheson Lake taking hikers through the lush rainforest, and at some points, clings to cliff-tops that have spectacular views high above the water. The trail is rated as moderate since its rocky shores have lots of up and down sections on exposed rock faces. This park borders on Roche Cove Park, making it easy to explore both.
East Sooke Regional Park, August 27th
West Coast wilderness awaits you in every corner of East Sooke Park. Experience a hike along the windswept rocky coast, over dry hilltops, through dark rainforest mossy to sheltered coves. The Coastal Trail makes a great day hike, and with the western exposure you get a lot of sun! Babbington Hill can be approached from a few ways, and it offers a stunning view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains. The Petroglyph near the Aylard Farms trailhead, and abandoned mines inside the park offer a rare physical glimpse of local history.
Experiences are $250 (+ tax) per guest with discounts for groups of 6 or 8 participants. Please note minimums must be met for these programs to run. Price includes full day hike, transportation, food, art supplies, and sketch instructor. Full day adventures run from 10 am – 7:00 pm. Times may vary per location. About The Bateman Foundation and the Robert Bateman Centre: The Bateman Foundation is a national public charity that inspires a lasting relationship with nature through the lens of art, and is currently the one of the only non-profits in Canada primarily using artwork to promote a connection to nature and the environment. We create programs and exhibits to inspire a generation of people to have a reverence for nature. By noticing nature’s beauty and importance, we encourage action to ensure the natural world is protected through our three core areas: youth initiatives, eco-literacy, and leadership & mentorship.
One of the Foundation’s main projects is the Robert Bateman Centre, showcasing over 80 works of Robert Bateman spanning his seven decades as one of Canada’s premier artists. Located in Victoria, BC's dynamic inner harbour, the Centre houses a gallery and gift shop, and hosts a rotation of exhibits and a full schedule of educational and public programming.
