[BCMA] Registration is Open! Lower Mainland Museum Educators Conference 2017

Good afternoon,

The Lower Mainland Museum Educators (LMME) group is pleased to invite you to register for its inaugural conference, Building Community Relationships, on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Telus World of Science, Vancouver. The conference aims to bring together informal educators to inspire and learn from one another. Presentations address various members of the community, including seniors, people with disabilities, Indigenous communities and organizations, school districts, toddlers, corporate business partners, volunteers, and more. Learn about first-hand experiences in community collaboration projects (successes AND failures), and ask questions about their goals, processes and future plans. Participate in brainstorming sessions with your peers to explore problems and solutions on various education topics, such as outreach, science, art, and sustainability.

The conference includes an address by keynote speaker, Jill Baird, an established and well-respected educator, museum professional, activist, and community advocate. Dr. Baird, who is the long-time Curator of Education at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, has a PhD in Museum Education with a focus on collaboration between First Nations and non-First Nations museum professionals. Dr. Baird will speak about to how the idea of "landed wisdom" guides her practice across cultures and contexts; how coming to know people, places and situation offer new opportunities and requires constant self-reflection.
