SUMMARY OVERVIEW OF SENIOR MANAGEMENT SEARCH
Director of Development and Communications
This is a great opportunity for a forward-thinking Director of Development and Communications to join the executive team and help the Museum of Vancouver (MOV) realize its full potential. The museum is a hidden gem in Vancouver. Working closely with the newly-recruited CEO - Mark Richards who comes to MOV from the Museum of London, UK - this new post will materially impact the face of culture in Vancouver and beyond and create a legacy of impressive arts and cultural dialogue and enjoyment for future generations.
Brief description of MOV Director of Development and Communications role:
Working closely with executive staff, key volunteers and principal stakeholders, he/she will
* Create and execute a fundraising program reflecting industry best practices, and contributes to a holistic culture of philanthropy across the museum
* Conduct a strategic assessment of existing philanthropic strengths and opportunities, and design a 'road map' for long-term growth and success in development
* Set clear and achievable goals, implement accountability measures, and lead and inspire staff to meet and exceed expectations
* Have a deep understanding of the development landscape in Vancouver and B.C. and carry a portfolio of prospects and donors
* Work with the CEO and the Board to cultivate and steward transformational changes
* Plan, develop and deliver a communications strategy - with a specialized staff of 2-3 people - that raises the museum's public profile as a distinct entity in its own right with an immediately recognizable brand and purpose
The ideal candidate will:
* Be a dynamic and accomplished individual with leadership experience in development and fundraising campaign management
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of strategies employed in all major development functions, and a track record of significant personal success in donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship at a leadership gift level
* Create a result-oriented work environment that promotes collaboration, and builds relationships with donors and supporters that inspires
Transforming the Museum of Vancouver will require additional funding from all available sources. The Director of Development and Communications will be given the opportunity to build a world-class development program from scratch. She/he will establish a culture of philanthropy across the museum which supports key strategic priorities, attracts new sources of funding, and creates lifelong relationships between the museum, and its supporters and members. The appointee will join the museum at an exciting time as it embarks upon the next era in its rich history.
