British Columbia Heritage Community Members,

Athabasca University offers three fully online certificate, graduate diploma and graduate degree programs in heritage studies, and registration for Fall Semester courses is now open.

The University Certificate in Heritage Resources Management (HRM) is an undergraduate program that is open to anyone over 16 years of age, making it ideal for a wide range of heritage practitioners and enthusiasts, such as emerging heritage professionals, volunteers seeking to deepen their understanding of museum practice, or established heritage workers looking for professional development courses. The Certificate consists of eight core courses and a practicum course, all of which may be laddered into Athabasca University degree programs such as the Bachelor of Arts Degree. For more information, including courses currently available, please see: http://heritage.resources.athabascau.ca/undergraduate/index.php

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in HRM is intended for students who already hold a degree and who wish to pursue graduate work in heritage and museum studies topics. It consists of four graduate courses, a practicum course, and for students coming into the program without any academic background in heritage, up to four undergraduate foundational courses. Together these courses provide a practical and academic foundation in the principles of heritage practice, and are an equally good preparation for advanced professional work or for further graduate studies. All grad courses in the Diploma will transfer into the AU Master of Arts Degree. For more information and the graduate course schedule please see http://heritage.resources.athabascau.ca/graduate/index.php

Finally, the Master of Arts - Integrated Studies (MA-IS) Degree, with a Focus Area in Heritage and Social History incorporates studies in heritage with broader liberal arts academic training. The MA-IS degree provides the foundation for advanced professional opportunities and also for further graduate work for students who hope to continue on to doctorate-level studies. MA-IS consists of 11 graduate courses, and further details may be found on the program website here: http://mais.athabascau.ca/specialization/heritage_social_history.php

Course schedules, program details, registration procedures, and fees are all detailed on the program websites listed above, but please do not hesitate to contact our office for further information or assistance with registering for the Fall Semester courses.
