Port Coquitlam, BC - Bring your family and friends for fun summer experiences each week at the Farmers Market, Village Vibe Performing Arts Series, Music in the Park, and Cinema Under the Stars-all free events taking place at Leigh Square and local parks! Here are the events for the second week of Summer in the City.
Village Vibe Performing Arts Series*-Saturday, July 9th from 2-4pm at Leigh Square
Belly Fusion. Belly Fusion's Ming Yeung's devotion to inspire community involvement is evident through her involvement in the arts community. She offers fitness-infused, easy-to-follow, informal dance demos. Participants then groove to cool summer beats.
Music in the Park**-Sunday, July 10th from 2-4pm at Leigh Square
Sister Says. Sister Says is a soulful genre-bending group based out of Vancouver, fronted by mixed Haida-Tsimshian siblings Gillian and Robert Thomson. They are not your typical soulful jam or singer-songwriter duo; their music pulses with the soul telling heartbreak tales and stories about the wonderful and ever-changing conundrum that is life. In live situations Sister Says shape-shifts effortlessly from an intimate duo, with Gillian narrating on vocals and percussion and Robert laying down the foundation with keyboard and guitar, to a full band with Robert on bass and talented musician's Lonny Eagleton (guitar) and drummers such as Max Marceau Ley and Trevor Ainsworth.
*Village Vibe Performing Arts Series takes place on a covered outdoor stage at Leigh Square every Saturday afternoon from July through August and features emerging performers in dance and music and creative writing. The program is free and provides opportunities for local artists to gain exposure and experience in front of a live audience. The series runs rain or shine and everyone is welcome.
**Music in the Park features the finest professional musicians from across Metro Vancouver playing a variety of genres including jazz, blues, folk, world fusion, and contemporary. It takes place on a covered outdoor stage at Leigh Square every Sunday at 2 pm throughout July & August. The series runs rain or shine, is free, and everyone is welcome.
The Summer in the City Festival of Arts, Culture & Entertainment is presented by Leigh Square Community Arts Village and the City of Port Coquitlam's Recreation department and is sponsored in part by the Tri-Cities News, G&F Financial and Alliance Printing. Stay updated about all our Festival events by "Liking" us on Facebook.
The Leigh Square Community Arts Village encourages and facilitates community development through arts, culture and heritage within Port Coquitlam and serves as a cultural meeting place, a 21st century community arts centre. See www.portcoquitlam.ca/leighsquare for details.
