when fascination with found objects evolves into art

The City of Port Coquitlam welcomes the public to the opening reception for When Fascination with Found Objects Evolves into Art by Barbara Ferris and The Muck Sisters on Thursday August 4th from 5-7pm in the Michael Wright Art Gallery, 2253 Leigh Square Place, Port Coquitlam. The exhibit is free and the reception includes complimentary refreshments and light snacks.

Barbara Ferris is an emerging mixed media assemblage artist from Maple Ridge, BC. Canada. She re-purposes the old, used and discarded; bringing these elements together to create unique, sacred and wondrous re-creations. Barbara has always been drawn to vintage and timeworn objects; she explores antique stores, thrift shops, vintage markets, abandoned buildings, and railway lines searching for treasures to incorporate into her art.

The Muck Sisters; Laura and Ninna, have been creating with clay together for the last year and a half. The Sisters have been Artists-in-Residence at Leigh Square for the past 6 months making clay critters with faces and a large variety of useful, functional pots with a bit of whimsy added to each piece. Many of the pieces created during their residency have since been fired in wood kilns and salt fired giving their work a different look to the traditional electric kiln results. The Muck Sisters had such fun creating at Leigh Square this past Winter and Spring, and building a following of friends, that they're thrilled to now be back again and invite you to come see what they were up to.
