Position Summary:
The goal of Sierra Club BC’s Education Program is to develop a population that is aware of, concerned about, and connected with the environment.
We are currently seeking an Education Program Coordinator to join our Education Team on a 0.8FTE basis (30 hr/wk).

The goal of this position is to oversee the smooth operation of our curriculum-linked environmental education programming for elementary and middle school classrooms throughout B.C.
The successful candidate will be responsible to train, supervise and support the work of a small team of professional educators and for the administration of the program (including scheduling, maintaining records). They will also be responsible for curriculum development and providing support for teachers in the form of educational resources, communications and professional development. The Education Program Coordinator also oversees the financial management of the program.

This position requires the ability to lead environmental/nature-focused professional development workshops for teachers and classroom programs for grades K-8.

Position Overview: The successful candidate will ensure smooth and successful delivery of school‐based programming through the following actions:

ADMINISTRATIVE (35%)
* Ensure smooth booking and scheduling of school programs with teachers and school programs staff
* Coordinate travel logistics for school‐based programs
* Responsible for the development and delivery of teacher training workshops, either by scheduling appropriate educators or delivering workshops independently
* Maintain and oversee an Education Annual Operating Plan, and other planning documents as required
* Ensure delivery of grant obligations and meet reporting requirements for grants
* Conduct program administration, reporting, and evaluation
* Respond to telephone calls / emails related to school‐based programming
* Maintain files, paperwork and associated records in an organized and transparent fashion

PROGRAM DELIVERY (25%)
* Coordinate delivery of Teacher Pro‐D trainings and deliver in collaboration with Educators
* Responsible for delivering one full-day of classroom programming approximately every two weeks
* Provide individualized support to teachers in order to help them teach in and about nature (e.g. finding and sharing resources with them, helping with funding application for their classes,  connecting classes with other conservation/education organizations as appropriate etc.)

STAFF SUPERVISION and COLLABORATION (10%)
* Responsible for the hiring and training of new Environmental Educators
* Support and guide Environmental Educators(including encouraging and supporting professional development opportunities for Educators)
* Collaborate extensively with educators as part of the Education Team for program development, delivery, grant/donor deliverables etc.
* Coordinate and facilitate weekly or bi-weekly education team meetings
* Assist educators with the coordination and training of education program volunteers

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (10%)
* Develop, maintain, and follow an annual program budget
* Track and report on all program related expenses
* Track all expenses and submit expenses on a monthly basis to the Finance department
* Review monthly General Ledger accounting and other financial tracking files as required

FUNDRAISING/ REPORTING (10%)
* With support and coordination of the Development Team, prepare narrative and budgets for funding proposals and reports
* With the support and coordination of the Development Team, assist with stewardship of funder and donor relations
* Support the Development Team to carry out the annual fundraising plan for the Education Program by coordinating necessary reports and stewarding relationships as needed

COMMUNICATIONS (10%)
* Responsible for the design, writing and distribution of the monthly Education E-newsletter
* With the support and coordination of the Communications Team, deliver on the Education Program Communications Plan (work with educators to provide web content, blogs etc.)
* Responsible for maintaining and promoting our online library of free educational resources, and developing new resources when appropriate
* Develop promotional materials for school-based programming and professional development workshops
* Network with educators, school districts, regional educational associations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies In addition to being creative, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable of environmental education in BC, you must enjoy working with children, youth, and adults.

Qualifications:
* A university degree in Education or Environmental Studies, or other relevant field/ proven life experience of equivalent nature. Masters degree desirable
* Minimum three years demonstrable experience within environmental education, outdoor education, youth engagement, and/or experiential education
* Experience in program coordination and administration
* Ability to supervise staff, delegate tasks, and monitor work plans
* Prioritizes and enjoys collaborating as part of a team
* Demonstrable experience working in a formal classroom environment, with an understanding of provincial school system operating procedures
* Strong knowledge of BC’s provincial curriculum for grades K‐8
* Strong familiarity with environmental education theory and approaches
* Strong familiarity with and understanding of environmental, social justice, and cultural contexts within B.C.
* Proven knowledge and proficiency in the areas of: curriculum development, communications, interpretation (natural history/heritage), ethnobotany and/or environmental advocacy
* Able to independently lead group presentations and activities, with extensive experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
* Must be well organized, able to multi‐task and prioritize, flexible to changing work schedules, and meet deadlines
* Excellent English language written and verbal communications skills, and great people skills, particularly about environmental issues
* Creative, self‐confident, highly motivated, with great leadership and problem‐solving skills
* Available for occasional evening, weekend, and out‐of‐town events
* Computer skills required
* Class 5 driver’s license preferred
* Wilderness First Aid Certification (minimum 40 hours) preferred
* Fluency in French an asset

Compensation:
$21.39 - 24.04/hour, 30 hours/week (based on experience and qualifications)
