mindfulness in may youth art exhibition at leigh square:
"I HAVE A DREAM"

The City of Port Coquitlam & the Friends of Leigh Square Society celebrate Youth Week and Mental Health Awareness Week with their 2nd annual Mindfulness in May Youth Art exhibition from May 6th to 30th at the Michael Wright Art Gallery in The Gathering Place.

This year's theme is "I Have a Dream" and students were encouraged to explore what this means to them. Eleven grade 9 to 12 students from Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School, Coquitlam Alternate Basic Education, and Encompass submitted works that expressed childhood dreams and dreams for the future, discussions of stigmas surrounding mental health, struggles of the world, and the equally tranquil and terrifying nature of dreams. The paintings, mixed media, and installation artworks submitted show dedicated art practices, critical thinking, and incredible talent.

The public is encouraged to attend the opening reception on Friday May 6th from 5-7pm at the Michael Wright Art Gallery in The Gathering Place and vote for their favourite piece online at www.portcoquitlam.ca/mindfulness<http://www.portcoquitlam.ca/mindfulness> ; each art submission is entered for a chance to win cash prizes, including a People's Choice Award. Light refreshments and snacks will be served and the winning entries will be announced at the reception.
