*Preview Exhibition of Finalist Posters for the Okanagan Arts Awards
created by Centre for Arts and Technology students May 27th*
*For immediate release // Kelowna, BC*
Through a collaboration between the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan
(ARTSCO) and the Centre for Arts and Technology (CAT), this year’s
finalists nominees for the 9th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards will each
receive a large poster to commemorate their nomination.
“With the overwhelming number of nominations this year, 113 in total, we
knew we needed to do things a little differently this year”, says ARTSCO
Executive Director Katie Brennan. “So when Victor Poirier, the Program
Manager of the Digital Photography and Digital Film Departments approached
us about his students doing a photoshoot of the 33 nominees proceeding as
finalists into the Okanagan Arts Awards Gala evening on May 28th, we knew
we had hit on something special”.
Poirier brought on Centre of Arts and Technology design instructor Jonathan
Matlock in to create look of the posters and set the photo-style CAT
students would be emulating - the crisp and graphic photos of fashion and
celebrity photographer Terry Richardson.
This project was incorporated into the *Lighting for Stills* photo course,
which is part of the coursework completed by students studying digital
photography and pursuing one of the many fully accredited certificate and
diploma programs CAT offers across a variety of arts and technology
disciplines, with an emphasis on real-world practical experience.
Under the direction of Grant Robinson, one of this year’s nominees in the
Visual Arts Category of the Okanagan Arts Awards, Centre of Arts and
Technology students photographed the 2016 Okanagan Arts Awards Finalists.
The finished Okanagan Arts Awards Finalists posters will be previewed to
the public in a preview exhibition at the Central for Arts and Technology,
located in Landmark building 4, on Friday, May 27th from 5 - 9pm. There
will be wine and cheese, short remarks and live DJ from CAT’s music
production department. This event is free and open to the public.
For those interested in attending the Okanagan Arts Awards gala evening on
Saturday, May 28th, tickets are $20 per person and are available for
purchase at artsco.ca.
The Award gala evening, which begins at 7pm, features performances by
Wildson , Kelly Derrickson, Leah West, Anna Jacyszyn, Loni Moger and
Stephen Buck, Aaron and Graham Ord, Lucy Hazelwood and a grand finale with
The Trips, topped off with the OAA Afterparty with DJ Wolfhous.
