Souvenir

The City of Port Coquitlam welcomes the public to the opening reception for Souvenir by Pete Kohut, December 1, from 7-9pm in the Michael Wright Art Gallery, 2253 Leigh Square Place, Port Coquitlam. The exhibit is free and the reception includes complimentary refreshments and light snacks.
Pete Kohut identifies as a painter and is "drawn to the challenges inherent in painting the figure and finds it an inexhaustible source of inspiration." Figures that are fractured, layered, and distorted are the imagery that make-up the oil-on-canvas paintings, which represent Kohut's reflection on how we process the high frequency and large quantity of images we are exposed to each and every day. Inspired by the popular images from fashion magazines, online portfolios, and scenes from every day, he attempts to distill this influence into puzzling and ambiguous paintings which the viewer must then solve and digest. Pete Kohut hopes his work will stimulate conversation about art and it's representation in the art community.
