Afternoon Tour and Tea planned at Kelowna Art Gallery
August 8, 2017 - Kelowna, BC: Would you like to spend an afternoon viewing works of art by Emily Carr, Daphne Odjig, Bill Reid, members of the Group of Seven, and over 70 other Canadian artists? What if this experience included a private tour with the exhibition curator and followed with tea, refreshments, and a social?
On Saturday, August 19, from 1 to 3 pm, guest curator Roger H. Boulet will be leading visitors on an intimate tour of A Legacy of Canadian Art from Kelowna Collections.
The exhibition aims to take viewers on a journey through the past 150 years of visual art in Canada and has a unique local connection - the 81 works in the show were borrowed from personal collections in the Kelowna area and complemented by select pieces from the Gallery's permanent collection. Guests can expect to see historical works by artists such as Cornelius Krieghoff, Emily Carr, A. Y. Jackson, Kathleen Moir Morris, Lawren Harris, Sybil Andrews, Jack Bush, Jack Shadbolt, Daphne Odjig, Bill Reid, Jean Paul Riopelle, Takao Tanabe, and Alex Janvier, among many others.
Following the tour, a tea and social will be held. This event is free and open to the public. Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP to info at kelownaartgallery.com in advance.
Roger H. Boulet has had a long career as a curator and administrator in public art galleries, including posts at the Whyte Gallery in Banff, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Burnaby Art Gallery, and the Alberta Gallery of Art. He has created exhibitions as a freelance curator for the Kamloops Art Gallery, the Kelowna Art Gallery, and the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. He lives in Summerland, BC.
A Legacy of Canadian Art from Kelowna Collections is on view until October 15, 2017. The exhibition is sponsored by Pushor Mitchell LLP and KF Aerospace, along with financial assistance from the Rogers' Family Charitable Trust.
The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in the heart of the Cultural District in downtown Kelowna.
