Summer Art Instructor
The Kamloops Art Gallery is seeking two enthusiastic students to prepare for and offer Summer Art Camps for children.
The ideal candidates are pursuing or have completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts and/or Education degree. They must have a willingness to learn, a passion for teaching and art, excellent verbal communications skills and enjoy working with children. Strong organizational and computer skills (specifically Microsoft programs) are an asset.
Applicants must be a student between 19 and 30 years of age; have been registered as a full-time post-secondary student in the 2016/2017 academic year; intend to return to school on a full-time basis for the 2017/2018 academic year; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have Canadian refugee status; be legally entitled to work in Canada; be registered with the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory (https://www.youngcanadaworks.ca/index-eng.cfm); and be willing to commit to the full duration of the work term.
This position is pending receipt of funding from Canadian Heritage through Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations.
Wage: $15/hour
Employee status: Temporary full-time May 29 to September 1.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summer Art Instructor
Principle Responsibility: The Sumer Art Instructor provides a standard of excellence in the facilitation of the Summer Art Camp program for children 4 to 12 by conducting art-making workshops and guided exhibition tours.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
In consultation with the Education and Public Programs Director, developing comprehensive lesson plans
Teaching and administering art-related studio workshops including set up and clean up of studios
Developing visitors' knowledge of exhibitions through tours as needed
Ensuring the safety and security of all program participants
Ensuring the safety, security and maintenance of the works in the exhibition, while conducting tours in the Gallery
Providing participants with an educational and enjoyable art experience
Preparing and hanging a display of the art produced throughout the summer
Full studio clean and inventory check at the end of the program
Reports to: Education and Public Programs Director
