Looking for a Christmas gift for yourself?
Registration is now open for the AABC's popular distance education course
"Introduction to Archival Preservation". Using the textbook *Preserving
Archives and Manuscripts* students will be introduced to archival
preservation in seven modules. Over 10 weeks, students will learn about basic
concepts and terminology in archival preservation; the material science of
paper records, photographs, machine readable records and electronic
media; understanding
design requirements for archives buildings and storage environments; best
practices for the exhibition of archival records; and elements of
sound emergency
and preservation management planning. The textbook will be supplemented
with articles, survey tools and condition reporting assessments available
on the Internet.
*Registration:* November 1 - December 8, 2017
*Course duration:* January 8 - March 19, 2018
The cost for the course is $350.00 (CAD) for AABC members and $500.00 (CAD)
for non-members. Students will be able to order the course textbook - Mary
Lynn Ritzenthaler's *Preserving Archives and Manuscripts* (SAA, 2010) at a
special course price of $55.00 USD (including shipping & handling) once
they have registered.
