Classroom in Residence Project Coordinator
Chilliwack Museum and Archives
October 16, 2017 - March 31, 2017
Approx. 30 hours per week
$16.00 per hour

The Chilliwack Museum and Archives is seeking an energetic and creative University graduate to develop a dynamic, immersive place-based learning program. This position will be the key point of contact for the "Classroom in Residence" pilot project at the Chilliwack Museum and Archives. Working with local School District teachers and community organizations, the Classroom in Residence Project Coordinator will help to research, develop and implement the Classroom in Residence program.

The Classroom in Residence Coordinator will undertake a broad range of tasks to develop implement, and evaluate the Classroom in Residence pilot project, including acting as a liaison with school district staff, teachers, and community groups. The successful candidate enjoys working with children of all ages and will have experience working in a variety of educational settings.

Requirements:
* University Degree in History, Anthropology, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Education, or other related field;
* Experience working with children, in a formal or informal teaching environment;
* Knowledge of the current BC Curriculum, specifically in Social Studies, and understanding of current educational practices;
* Ability to work independently and in a team;
* Ability to foster relationships with teachers, community groups and volunteers;
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
* Excellent communication skills, oral and written;
* Computer skills including knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe;

Assets:
* Previous experience working in a museum;
* Experience completing projects;
* Experience facilitating programming to a variety of age groups;
* Experience developing educational programming for a variety of age groups.

An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:


*        are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

*        are legally entitled to work in Canada;

*        will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

*        are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

*        will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;

*        are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed full-time;

*        are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment;

*        are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program; and

*        have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.
