*Position: Guest Events and Education Programmer*
The Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society is a volunteer driven
non-profit organization that operates Port Coquitlam’s only museum and
archives and is dedicated to celebrating and preserving Port Coquitlam’s
diverse heritage and culture.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative young professional to join our
team as a Guest Events and Education Programmer to help create, plan, and
implement engaging, community focused events and programs.
Working under the direction of the Society’s Museum Coordinator, and with
the Events, Programming, and Fundraising Committee the Guest Programmer
will:
· Be responsible for proposing, researching, and developing a
number of fun, community focused events and programs (trivia nights, murder
mysteries, craft beer/wine fundraisers, anniversary events, teaching kits,
day camps for children, etc.)
· Use your knowledge and experience to advise PoCo Heritage Staff
and Board on how to create successful educational programs, and assist in
creating sustainable workplans for future events and programs
· Conduct research related to the development of new programming,
including research into education curriculum requirements and how these
requirements can be built into our exhibits and programs
· Assisting with event and programming promotion and marketing,
including social media
*Time Commitment: *
· One day, or equivalent time, regular on-site volunteer shift,
between the hours of 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday to Saturday
· Independent off-site planning and research as needed
· The position is a 6 month commitment beginning in September
*Qualifications:*
· Creative, fun, and imaginative
· Passionate about developing programming for diverse age groups,
including educational programming for school age children
· Knowledge and understanding of the new BC School Curriculum
· Very reliable, and able to work independently and in a
collaborative environment
· Outstanding organizational skills, time management, and attention
to detail
· Strong research skills and computer literacy (Microsoft Office
Suite)
· Excellent English oral and written communication and
interpersonal skills
· Able to lift and carry boxes and supplies up to 20 lbs, and able
to climb ladders and reach overhead
