Hello all,

After all the excitement this week of countless emails and social media
posts, I thought it would be useful to collate some important information
for you all in one place.

*1. BCMA's response to the McDonald's ad*

Thank you again to everyone who took action in response to the McDonald's
Canada ad campaign this week. The BCMA was very impressed by members
calling their local media and contacting McDonald's Canada directly. As
the WMA put it in their blog post
<http://www.westmuse.org/articles/canada%E2%80%99s-museums-roar-back> about
the campaign/response, "Canada's Museums Roar Back!" And roar back you did!

BCMA used this opportunity to create a fun look at what your $5 actually
CAN get you at a museum or gallery. We hope this sparks some positive
discussions and promotion as we move past this unfortunate event. You can
see the video on our YouTube channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svtvy2-ij8A

And as a final note, many of us have seen the large-scale response on
national media like CBC (The Exploration Place even got a quick clip on
CBC's The National last night), but we also want to highlight the work of
museums getting local media coverage, such as this coverage out of
Revelstoke:

*2. BCMA Webinars - 2018 season starts Tuesday*

Don't forget to sign up for the first webinar of 2018! Join Cassie from
the Robert Bateman Centre on Tuesday, January 16 at noon to learn all about
creating your own fundraising plan. Has anyone added McDonald's to their
list of targeted fundraising requests?! You can learn more about the
webinar and sign up for tickets here:

*3. BCMA and You*

BCMA wants to better understand how we can serve our members, what programs
you find most valuable, what we should focus on and where we can improve as
a service organization. This survey is for all BCMA members – institutions,
affiliates, individuals and student/volunteer members - and all
non-member museum professionals in BC. Make your voice heard! Access the
survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BCMAandyou

*4. #MuseumSelfie Day*

The fifth #MuseumSelfie Day is happening on Wednesday, January 17. Lots of
BC museums took part last year, so we're hoping even more do this year!
You can post pictures from within exhibits, a selfie of your museum
building, show off something cool (with you next to it), or something
completely new and creative.

#MuseumSelfie day is open to all. Staff can participate, or you can
encourage your visitors to join in. The important thing about this event
is to have fun!

Be sure to post on Twitter or Instagram (or Facebook, but the big action
will be on the other two networks) using the hashtag #MuseumSelfie or
#MuseumSelfieDay, and while you're at it please include #BCMuseums so we
can find your great posts! You can also follow @MuseumSelfieDay
<https://twitter.com/MuseumSelfieDay> on Twitter and Instagram for more
details.

Thanks, and see you next week!

Ben
