Hello All,
Well, after much pulling of hair, with our opening date being moved (not once but twice), part of our venue suddenly being lost to construction, delays in funding (I know, you all feel our pain), and getting sucker punched a couple of times due to EOOOC (events out of our control) we FINALLY are opening our 2018 Feature Exhibit: INNOCENT EYES -war from a different perspective on August 1 here at HAMM in Courtenay. The panels started arriving yesterday!
INNOCENT EYES is a joint collaboration between HAMM and the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand, with some funding coming from the Flanders Government State of the Arts (Belgium) and a portion by the Province of British Columbia.
With just over 30 panels the exhibit tells stories of children, about children, by children who experienced war or conflict over the past 100 years around the world. WIth a combination of black and white, full colour, and colourized photo images, the exhibit tells of the hardships and joys of seeing war from the eyes of a child. We even created a story book hunt in the museum of the story of the real Winnie the Pooh and placed those panels about 3 feet off the floor (for adults this will be a different perspective). Plus each of our staff just happened to have an original Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal character which are in a fun display with other first edition Milne books that were donated to us for this exhibit.
A YouTube video has been produced to promote our exhibit. Please feel free to share this video on your social media. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHrWPYg1bM
This will be the first "indoor/outdoor" exhibit our museum has ever undertaken. We'll find out how the museum gods protect us in the next few months.
If you would like a small graphic to include in any of your local museum newsletters of nearby museum events, please let me know what you need and what size you need and I can have our graphics department (ie: me) whip one up for you.
Can you tell we are really excited about this exhibit?
PS. HAMM is closed on Sundays, but if any of you are in Courtenay on a Sunday during the run of INNOCENT EYES, email me ahead of time and I'll be glad to open up the museum for you, no matter the amount of people in your party.
