VICTORIA, BC-Turn off the BBQ and slip on your flip-flops: there is a lot to look forward to at the Royal BC Museum this July!
Join us for three jam-packed days of free outdoor events in celebration of Canada Day Weekend<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106217/canada-day-weekend>. Enjoy music and dance performances on the main stage on the plaza outside the museum. And on Canada Day join us for our annual Penny Carnival, outdoors in Thunderbird Park, to try your hand at some games. Fun for the whole family! June 28, 29 from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and July 1 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The Royal BC Museum is celebrating Pride by taking part in the Pride Festival on Sunday, July 8th from 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm in MacDonald Park in James Bay. Stop by the Royal BC Museum's table at this free event to browse LGBTQ2+ material from the BC Archives, learn about upcoming events at the museum or just to say hi! Tickets are $10. Museum Happy Hour is a 19+ only event. Valid photo ID is required for entry.
Museum staff are sharing Egyptian archaeology stories and activities at the Greater Victoria Public Library Summer Reading Program. Digging Around in Ancient Egypt<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/105925/greater-victoria-public-librarys-summer-reading-program> is perfect for kids aged seven to 10 and runs on July 10 and July 11 from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Greater Victoria Public Library's Juan de Fuca Branch. Head out to Gowlland Tod Provincial Park and join Mr. Earl Claxton Jr.<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Oa6rA8qwgY>, WSÁNEĆ (Saanich) Elder and Knowledge Keeper, and Dr. Tzu-I Chung, Royal BC Museum Curator of Human History, on a two-hour walk exploring the rich human history of this place. The Fieldtripper: Tod Inlet History Walk<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/105920/fieldtripper-tod-inlet-history-walk> is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 14. It is by donation (suggested amount is $5) and is appropriate for ages 10 and up. Meet at the trailhead to the park at Wallace Drive, Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, near Brentwood Bay.
Camps aren't just for kids! Reawaken your inner child and explore ideas within the Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs exhibition in this summer camp-inspired experience for grown-ups. Sneak behind-the-scenes, meet our Egyptophile staff, get to know our feature exhibition and core galleries as you've never done before, and explore through hands-on activities. Pack a lunch, ditch the kids and bring a friend for a day camp like no other. Egypt Adult Day Camps<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/learn/adult-programming/adult-only-events/grown-camp> run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Fridays (Archaeology Boot Camp on July 20 & Aug 17 and Built Structures and the Written Word on July 27 & August 24). Tickets are $50 per person per day camp (10 per cent discount for members).
Helmcken House and St. Ann's Schoolhouse<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/105955/helmcken-house-and-st-anns-schoolhouse> are open daily from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm throughout the summer. Visiting these two heritage houses is included with admission or is by donation.
The Food Truck Festival has relaxed into longer summer hours (until August 31): open Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Enjoy those warm summer nights eating a variety of food in our cozy and sheltered back courtyard. Have a drink with your selection of food when the beer and wine cart is open Sunday to Thursday 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm and Friday to Saturday 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It's one of the best, most convenient places downtown to grab a quick bite to eat and sit outside, baking in the summer sunshine.
See more than 300 original artifacts in the new feature exhibition Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/egypt> at the Royal BC Museum. Learn what life was like for people in ancient Egypt, from the Pharaoh to the fishmonger. Get hands-on with interactive multi-media and games at this family-friendly exhibition. Included with membership or by admission.
