Learning Opportunities Await This November at the Royal BC Museum

VICTORIA, BC-Join us this month for a new lineup of learning opportunities including lunchtime lectures, topical discussions and Egypt-themed activities.
Fit in a lunchtime learning session with our Live at Lunch<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106609/live-lunch-sisters-st-ann> lectures. Carey Pallister, provincial archivist for the Sisters of St. Ann, will talk about the legacy the sisters have left after 160 years of service to BC, Alaska and beyond. Carey will also showcase the outreach kits created for the sisters' 160th anniversary. Live at Lunch: The Sister of St. Ann takes place from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in Newcombe Conference Hall on November 7, 2018. Attendance is by donation.

Get ready for two installments of Museum Happy Hour this month. Get into the swing of life on the home front on November 8<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106605/museum-happy-hour-home-front> and uncover the amazing survival techniques of some of BC's animals on November 22<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106606/museum-happy-hour-extreme>. Each event is from 5:15 pm to 7:00 pm and costs $10 per person (not including drinks at the bar). These are popular events so be sure to get your tickets early!

Our annual Remembrance Day commemorations will take place on Sunday, November 11. Stop by the carillon for a Remembrance Day Recital<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106283/remembrance-day-recital> between 11:45 am and 12:30 pm following the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Provincial Legislature. Remembrance Day Commemorations<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106615/remembrance-day-commemorations> continue in Clifford Carl Hall including a performance by the Victoria Children's Choir from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm and a live-streamed lecture by Associate Registrar Paul Ferguson called "Belgium Remembered in British Columbia" from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm. Events are included with museum admission or membership.

Experience the magic of Christmas in Old Town<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106707/christmas-old-town> and get into the holiday spirit starting on November 12 until January 9, 2019. Visit the wood-cobbled streets lined with festive garlands and see shops decked out in seasonal finery. Starting December 1 you will find Father Christmas in Old Town where he will be available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for photos (by donation). Christmas in Old Town is included with museum admission or membership.

'Unceded' is a term commonly used to describe stolen Indigenous land, an important word and concept in any colonized cultural landscape. Colonial treaties may or may not have been agreed to willingly, but they shape our lives, lands and relationships even today. Join us for the November edition of our free It's Complicated<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106561/its-complicated-unceded> series on November 14 from 5:15 pm to 7:00 pm to discuss this term in the context of the Royal BC Museum.

Celebrate Archives Week with a pint at the BC Archives Pub Quiz<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106724/bc-archives-pub-quiz>. Questions will relate to our collections or BC History, but you don't have to be an expert in either to join in the fun! Bring a team or join a group when you arrive. The quiz will take place in Old Town in the Becoming BC Gallery on November 23 from 5:15 pm to 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10.

The Egyptians had a vivid understanding of the afterlife and rich, complex rituals to ensure the soul arrived. Join us for Pathway to the Afterlife,<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106558/pathway-afterlife-interactive-event> organized by Camosun College's Anthropology of Death class, on November 24 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Learn about the importance of mummification, why particular grave goods were included in the tomb and the elaborate ceremonies that helped transform the mortal pharaoh into a divine ancestor. Free with admission or membership.

Take a step back in time to experience life in ancient Egypt. Our Wonder Sunday family program continues drawing inspiration from Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs. Stop by for this drop-in program included with admission for activities for kids of all ages from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm each Sunday.
