SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

GINA DAAHLGAHL NAAY ~ TRADING HOUSE GIFT SHOP

 

The Haida Gwaii Museum is seeking one high-school or post-secondary student for summer employment at the Haida Gwaii Museum's Trading House (gift shop). The position runs June 3 through August 30, 2019. Wage is $16.00 per hour for 35 hours per week.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, hard-working self-starter and with a demonstrated track record of excellence in interpersonal and organizational skills, retail/customer service, computer skills, written and spoken English language skills. The successful candidate must be physically able to lift and move heavy items. They will have:
·        An interest in pursuing a career in retail management, particularly Indigenous museum retail management
·        An interest in Indigenous tourism and marketing
·        A willingness to learn and work beyond the general concepts of retail management
·        A demonstrated interest in the cultures and territories of First Nations of the Pacific Northwest, in particular the Haida Nation and Haida Gwaii
·        A basic knowledge of Haida language, art and culture
·        Familiarity with local artists of all backgrounds, summer events and visitor experiences on Haida Gwaii
·        Valid driver's license not necessary but preferred.
This position is open to applicants between the ages of 15 and 30 who attended school full-time last year and intend to return to school full time next year. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. All qualified applicants with disabilities, visible minorities are encouraged to apply for the position. Preference will be given to qualified individuals of Haida ancestry and locals.
