Is your museum hosting a travelling exhibition that will open between now and March 31, 2020? If so, you may be eligible to receive support through the Exhibition Circulation Fund (ECF).
ECF has no deadline, applications are accepted until the yearly budget has been allocated. Some of you may be aware that we had already closed ECF this year, however, additional funding has become available so we are again accepting applications for the 2019-20 fiscal year. If you'd like to apply or have any questions, please contact me as soon as possible as this additional funding is limited.
For those planning future exhibits, the fund will be open as usual for exhibits opening next federal fiscal year (April 1, 2020 - March 31, 2021). Feel free to call/email me anytime to talk about a proposal and I'll walk you through the application process.
Here's a summary of ECF:
The Museums Assistance Program's (MAP) Exhibition Circulation Fund (ECF) supports museums to host travelling exhibits that facilitate Canadians' access to our heritage.
To be eligible, the host museum must: employ the equivalent of at least one full-time, paid professional staff; provide services to the public year-round; and, have policies for key museum functions. The exhibit can come from any other museum in Canada, including from within your home province or territory.
Eligible museums can request up to 70% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $15,000. Eligible costs must be directly related to the exhibit such as the loan fee, shipping, insurance, installation and de-installation, marketing, and community engagement activities. There is no deadline, applications are accepted year-round in the federal fiscal year that the exhibit opens, but applicants are encouraged to submit their applications at least four months before the exhibit opens. A signed loan agreement is required at the time of submission.
More info on the ECF component is in the guidelines (www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding/museums-assistance/exhibition-circulation.html<http://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding/museums-assistance/exhibition-circulation.html>) - please pay attention to the ineligible activities listed on page 7.
The official service standard for ECF is that we aim to send written notification of the funding decision within 16 weeks of the date we receive the complete application. We do try to speed this process when possible, but it may also be longer than that.
