INTERPRETIVE TRAINING
The City of Richmond has 6 heritage site and museums open to visitors. They are London Heritage Farm, Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Steveston Museum, Steveston Tram, Richmond Museum and Richmond Olympic Experience.
Our team of programming, curatorial, visitor services, attendants (interpreters) staff are all responsible at any given time with interacting with visitors and leading tours. The City has launched a new cross site program called, Living History. This is an open air museum concept, introducing period costumes and historic activities to the heritage sites. In preparation for the summer season and this new program we would like to give our team the tools to enhance their interpretive abilities and learn more about the different ways to engage with visitors when they are on site. We would also like to enhance our communication and storytelling skills when guiding tours and interacting with a diverse range of visitors. Finally we would like to learn about the foundation of professional interpretation in order to build on our programming skills across all of our sites.
The Scope of Work would include:
* 2 pre session planning meetings one of which will be on site at Britannia Shipyards.
* 2 hours on site (at Britannia Shipyards) training session for 20-25 people on April 24th 8:00am to 10:00am
* 1 post session meeting to discuss the training manual
* Developing a short training manual (5 pages) that covers the best practices of interpretation and the highlights of the session.
Please call me if you have any further questions.
Please send your CV, Proposal and Quote to Rebecca Forrest at rforrest at richmond.ca<mailto:rforrest at richmond.ca> by 5:00pm on March 19th.
