About the Museum of Vancouver
The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) connects Vancouverites to each other and connects the city to the world. An enthusiastic civic advocate, MOV is dedicated to encouraging a deeper understanding of Vancouver through stories, objects and shared experiences. MOV is an independent, non-profit organization that seeks partners to support the evolution of the Museum’s visitor experience. Our vision is to inspire a socially connected, civically engaged city.
MOV acknowledges that it is located within the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and is making redress and decolonization an institutional priority. MOV currently has four indigenous Board members.

Nature of the Position
This position will oversee the Indigenous Artisan Workshop Series by booking new workshops, both in the MOV facility (and piloting online initiatives as a COVID-19 response). The coordinator may also be asked to help coordinate opportunities for indigenous youth, such as the recently piloted Reconciled Futures Art Camp and virtual fieldtrip experiences. Examples of other types of public programming held, or attended, by MOV include festival events such as Indigenous Fashion Week and Pride Parade; Orange Shirt Day; an Outdoor Garden; Walking Tours; Family Day and Winter Wander events; panel discussions and film screenings.
As a representative of the museum, the Engagement Coordinator will be a good host, ensuring that indigenous community members feel supported and comfortable while working or visiting MOV. As part of relationship building, and maintenance, the Coordinator will at times provide advice and support to initiatives of the Education, Visitor Services, and Marketing departments.
Applicants should be willing to work flexible hours and be willing to attend cultural events and programming at other venues in the city as part of their engagement duties.
