*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
Creating Mandala: a transformational workshop
*With Caetani Cultural Centre & Vernon Community Art Centre’s
artist-in-residence, Ela Mukherjee, all the way from India. *
*At first glance a mandala appears to be a symmetrical circle, a pretty
image, sometimes made of coloured sand, or flowers, or flour. Beneath that
first glance, however, many layers of symbolism, meaning and opportunities
for transformation are revealed. *
“I wanted to share an artform which has some connection with my Indian
roots and at the same time is appealing to international learners. Mandala is
so very Indian that it is a part of everyday life in some parts of India,”
explains Mukherjee.
Ela Mukherjee is a ceramic artist and art educator based in Delhi, India.
She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study ceramics in the US and the
Charles Wallace India Trust scholarship to do the same in the UK. She’s
received a number of fellowships from the Government of India and
participated in various international art exhibitions and artist residency
programs.
Besides practicing art as a freelance artist from her own studio in Delhi,
Ela teaches in different art and design colleges as a visiting faculty.
*Learn how to make a mandala by signing up for *Ela’s workshop online at
www.caetani.org. You’ll spend all of Saturday February 22nd learning about
and creating mandala with her in the Caetani Cultural Centre’s Studio
Gallery.
Mukherjee is the Caetani Cultural Centre’s CeramAiR Artist-in-Residence.
The Caetani Centre’s Artist-in-Residence programs are available to artists
working on creative projects anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months in length.
The artist stays and creates at the Caetani Cultural Centre and is invited
to share workshops, readings and exhibitions with the North Okanagan
community. Ela’s residency is a partnership with the Vernon Community Art
Centre's ceramics studio.
