**Official Launch Event of the North Shore Culture Compass**
Vancouver, BC -- North Van Arts invites media to the official launch
event of the North Shore Culture Compass (Culture Compass) at The
Polygon Gallery on March 12, 2020 from 5:30-7:30pm. The Culture
Compass has been in beta testing since spring 2019 and is the result
of more than five years of development. The free online platform
catalogues and visualizes the cultural, artistic, and historic
institutions and destinations of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and
the region's First Nations communities. The Culture Compass will
change the way locals and tourists connect with the North Shore's
arts, culture, and heritage.
*Please note: the name North Shore Culture Compass is embargoed until
March 13.
WHAT: The official launch event of the Culture Compass with a
demonstration of its operation and the opportunity to engage with the
platform hands-on. Nancy Cottingham Powell, Executive Director of
North Van Arts, and key project partners will provide remarks. The
launch event will feature projections by digital artist Mieke Jay
Bray and a cocktail reception. Photography and filming are permitted.
WHO: Nancy Cottingham Powell, Executive Director of North Van Arts;
Rebecca Duncan, Squamish Nation Cultural Ambassador; City of North
Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan, District of West Vancouver Mayor
Mary-Ann Booth, and other invited guest speakers.
WHEN: Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 5:30-7:30pm; remarks at 6:00pm
WHERE: The Polygon Gallery, 101 Carrie Cates Ct., North Vancouver,
BC. Parking available nearby.
WHY: Media are invited to learn about the exciting new platform for
the local and global community. The Culture Compass is supported by
the Government of Canada through the Strategic Initiatives component
of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, City of North Vancouver,
District of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver, Squamish
Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver’s North
Shore Tourism, and many other community partners. The Culture Compass
is a powerful platform that engages diverse audiences and encourages
exploration of the North Shore.
