Popular art camps back for spring break

February 25, 2020 - Kelowna, BC: Parents who are looking for a way to keep their children busy over spring break may just find their answer at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

The Gallery has come up with a creative solution that not only keeps the kids occupied but provides them with opportunities to create art, get inspired, and make new friends. Art Break offers an exciting week of camps for children ages 5 to 12 that run each day from March 16 to 20, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Young artists will be inspired by short field trips to different places in the Cultural District, as well as the exhibitions on view in the various gallery spaces. Each day, children will take part in fun and inspiring activities, such as painting, sculpting, drawing, working with mixed media, and printmaking.

"One of the goals of the camps is to encourage the creativity of young participants and show them just how rewarding the arts can be," says Nataley Nagy, Executive Director at the Kelowna Art Gallery. "It's a time for imaginative play and for the children to experiment with new mediums and different artistic concepts in a safe encouraging space to see what they can dream up."

Class sizes for the camps are limited, allowing for plenty of one-on-one instruction to enrich the children's experience. All programs highlight skill-building and self-expression, as well as the introduction of new ideas and artistic techniques.

The cost for the camps each day is $65.00, or $50.00 for Gallery members.

Parents looking for an afternoon excursion during the week of March 24 to 27 may be interested in a new program the Gallery is launching, called Art Explorers. Each afternoon from 2 to 4 pm children and their families can drop in to create an art project inspired by the exhibitions currently on view. Those who are familiar with their popular Family Sundays will already be fans of this new addition. The cost for each afternoon is $5.00 per participant. Parents must accompany their children during the activity.
