[BCMA] questions

I would tend to agree with Kate – Look into the house itself and its previous use, and make sure that you are consistent with the heritage aspects of the building before you make any changes. If there are no such restrictions due to heritage aspects [ie the painting enhances the existing heritage], then go ahead and consider other options.

One consideration I would suggest at that point is: When did white become the colour for a medical office? I recall going to my doctor when I was young and the walls were decidedly washed out yellow with remarkable Edwardian brown trim. In making the walls white, you may be changing things to accommodate present day notions. If your intent is to recreate a doctor’s office, then you might want to look at any images that you might have of local offices in order to retain authenticity. That then becomes a practical educational component for your facility.

Hi all – if the walls are original to the building then painting them directly isn’t advisable. Depending upon the heritage value of the baseboards and ceiling trim you may be able to mount something that looks appropriate in front of the original boards without damage. You could also consult a conservator to look at a reversible coating that could be painted over, but that means much more work for future changes. If you want to chat about it give me a call at (250) 886-5386.

Hi Anne
I suggest a high gloss finish would be more authentic for a medical office so paint rather than white wash.

Hello Everyone
The Nechako Valley Historical Society has a few questions that we need answers to.

  1. We have a heritage building that has old plain ship lap walls in the rooms. We would like to make one of the rooms a Doctors office. Can we white wash the walls in that room to make it appear more sanitary?

  2. Where can we find sign stakes to stick in the ground with the names of the article or plant? Preferably ones with a slanted surface and slotted so we can change the cards.

 3. Do you find that aluminum signs with vinyl lettering hold up in the weather?

Thank you
Anne
