The Vancouver Maritime Museum is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to present maritime-themed educational programs to the public. Responsibilities will include developing and presenting guided exhibit tours, historical theatrical interpretation, and leading crafts and activities at special events (at the museum and off-site). The successful applicant will be an outgoing, organized team player that is comfortable working with children and people of all ages. This temporary, full-time position is funded in part by the Young Canada Works (YCW) employment initiative of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Employment term: May 12, 2020 - August 29, 2020 (16 weeks); 35 hours per week including some weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings. Employment is subject to grant funding.
Remuneration: $16.00 per hour + 10% in lieu of benefits and statutory holidays.
Responsibilities:
* Developing and presenting museum-based interpretive programs to children and adults (including exhibit tours, maritime-themed educational programs, and theatrical interpretation).
* Assisting with outreach activities at community events and off-site programs.
* Researching, writing, and revising new and existing educational programs and tours.
* Working with museum staff and volunteers involved in educational programs.
* Developing and maintaining program materials including costumes and props.
* Evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
Qualifications:
* Organized team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience working with children and family groups.
* Background and/or interest in education, history or museum studies.
* BC Driver's license preferred.
* Eligible candidates must meet requirements<https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding/young-canada-works/students-graduates/questions-students-graduates.html> for the YCW program and be a full-time student (16-30 years old) returning to full-time studies in the fall.
