Welcome Reception at the Vancouver Art Gallery

The Vancouver Art Gallery is western Canada's largest art museum. Located i=
n
a 1911 Francis Rattenbury building, renovated in 1983 by architect Arthur
Erickson, the Gallery features exhibitions of historical masters and
contemporary leaders.
Delegates will be welcomed to Vancouver and Conference 2002 with a tasty
reception co-sponsored by the Gallery. Join a Gallery Animateur at 5:45pm
for an exclusive tour of the Tom Thomson exhibition. Nibble on hor d'oeuvre=
s
and meet old friends and new. The first and second floors will be open to
delegates, and for shoppers in the group, the Gallery Store will be open
until 6pm.
On view in the galleries on the 1st floor is Tom Thomson (organised and
circulated by the National Gallery of Canada and the AGO). The first major
retrospective of Thomson's work in 30 years, this exhibition includes 140
key paintings by Thomson and some of his contemporaries who later formed th=
e
Group of Seven. On the 2nd floor This Place, is a showcase of works focusin=
g
on British Columbia and arranged around three thematic groupings: the land,
indigenous cultures and the self. Stan Douglas, Bill Reid, Jack Shadbolt,
Tony Hunt, Rodney Graham, Emily Carr, Jeff Wall and others are featured in
this extraordinary exhibition from the Gallery's permanent collection.
Tickets are $20 and includes hors d'oeuvres, complimentary beverage and
tour.
