Job Posting - Collections Assistant, Vancouver Police Museum

The Vancouver Police Centennial Museum is operated by the Vancouver Police Historical Society, a non-profit society and registered charity.  The mandate of the museum is to foster interest in the history of the Vancouver Police Department and to deliver educational programs that focus on crime prevention and the science of contemporary police work.

Working under the supervision of the Curator, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing the museum's collection through the creation and implementation of an annual donation campaign.  The Collections Assistant will asses the museum's current collection in conjunction with the museum Curator, identify areas for collections development, identify potential donors, initiate an ongoing relationship with appropriate individuals and organizations and accession artifacts into the museum collection.

Requirements:
. currently enrolled as a student in art, history, museum studies, archival studies or other related field
. computer literacy, including Microsoft Access
. excellent research, communications and interpersonal skills
. ability to work both independently and in a team
. between 16 and 30 years of age and registered in the Young Canada Works candidate inventory
. willing to commit to working 35 hours per week from July 7 - September 1, 2007 and part-time in the fall
