Come explore the many interpretations of children’s literature in this
exhibit of paper quilts at the Crafthouse Gallery in April.

The final Chapter to "Bedtime Stories" is this artist's
quilted book of nursery rhymes made entirely with thread, ink and paper.

“ ‘Ending Bedtime’ is the final chapter in my paper quilt series
celebrating the elegance and strength of fine papers, childhood
literature, prints, quilts and motherhood. This exhibition consists of
an artist book with twenty ‘pages’ individually framed. While ‘Bedtime
Stories’ asks the question how do worlds of giants, fairies, mythical
beasts, dead mothers and dangerous quests prepare children for life's
journey, ‘Ending Bedtime’ examines the history, mystique and enduring
charm of nursery rhymes.

Quilt making with paper provides me with an artistic outlet from
motherhood and part time jobs. As women before me understood, quilt
making works with small blocks of concentrated time, material and space,
which ingredients evolve into a complete piece (peace). Aesthetically,
what strikes me about quilts is the playfulness of the repeated image,
the use of vibrating colour combinations, pattern composition, and the
complex abstract thought involved.

I hope ‘Ending Bedtime’ pays homage to quilt making, motherhood and
nursery rhymes.”
