The Maple Ridge Museum and Community Archives has recieved funding from 
Canadian Heritage under the Museums Assistance program to strengthen our 
organizational capacity in our archives section of operations. We are 
looking for an experienced archivist or archival consultant to work with 
us inhouse to develop a policy and procedures manual and provide onsite

Request for Proposal: Archival Operations Consultant

Maple Ridge Historical Society Background

The Maple Ridge Historical Society is a not-for-profit registered 
charity that provides Heritage Services to the community of Maple Ridge. 
It operates two museums, a community archives and three other heritage 
buildings. The MRHS was the successful recipient of a Museums Assistance 
Program Grant to complete a project that will see an enhancement in the 
organizational capacity of our Community Archives operation.

The Maple Ridge Museum and Community Archives is seeking proposals from 
experienced Archivist/Archival Consultant/s to provide training and 
professional development onsite and to assist in the development of a 
policy and procedures manual for the Maple Ridge Museum’s archival 
holdings.

Project Deliverables – Archival Operations Consultant

Site Visit.
The consultant will visit the Maple Ridge Museum + Archives and observe 
current practices.
Policy and Procedures.
They will then work with staff to create a comprehensive and effective 
policy and procedures manual that can be used by staff and volunteers 
with a varied level of competency.
Implementation.
The consultant will then work with core staff and volunteers to 
implement the new policy and procedures. Including very practical 
application instruction/demonstration of underdeveloped skills.

We expect that the stages of Phase 1 will have durations close to or 
consistent with the following timelines.
Site Visit:
½ day November 2007
Policy and Procedures:
2 – ½ day working group sessions November 2007
1 – ½ day review session January 2007
Implementation:
3 to 5 – ½ day working sessions November 2007-January 2008

The total budget for this phase of the project can be no more than 
$4000.00.
