Job Description
Job Title: Heritage Interpreter
Duration: 20 to 24 weeks negotiable 35 hours per week. Oct , 2007 to Mar
29, 2008
Rate of Pay; $10 per hour, Standard Benefits (UIC, CPP, WCB, Vacation Pay)

Background:
The Railway and Forestry Museum is an eight acre park displaying the history
and heritage of the railway and forest industries. We have one of the
largest rail collections in Western Canada and over 1/3 of our collection
has been identified as rare or unique. Our mission: to preserve and
interpret the history of railway, forestry and other industries and the
culture that grew around them.
Job Summary
The recent graduate will work with our team to help interpret this region's
industrial history and heritage. The position will assist with programming
for adults, seniors and the general public. This person will assist in
creating an exhibit and school program associated with the exhibit.
General Duties
. Greeting and speaking with visitors and friends of the museum
. Delivering tours
. Assist with creation and delivery of outreach programs
. Give a minimum of 5 public presentations,
. Assist with the development and installation of the Forestry
Technology Exhibit
. Daily attention to site maintenance and safety
Supervision and training
This position is entry level intended to bridge the gap from University to
the job market. The employee will receive training in all aspects of the
position and access to networking opportunities. The employee will work
alternately under the direct supervision of the Guest Services Manager and
the Curator.
Candidate Profile/Qualifications
. The Candidate must be a recent post secondary school graduate
(within 24 months) and between the ages of 16 and 30 years.
. The position will be of interest to students with a degree in
Forestry, History, Theatre, Business or programs with public relations and
communications content.
. Public speaking, communications, and/or artistic, skills are an
asset
. Computer skills are a job requirement
. Language skills in English are required language Skills in French
are desirable.
