    The North Vancouver Museum and Archives is accepting applications
    for the position of Program Assistant (Heritage Programmer).


     


    *_Scope of Duties_*

Reporting to the Assistant Director/Curator of Education, the Heritage 
Programmer will undertake a variety of program-based duties aimed at 
assisting with the creation, delivery and promotion of education 
programs for schools and the general public.

 

The Heritage Programmer will plan, schedule, implement, and evaluate a 
wide range of programs including special events, lectures, heritage 
displays and demonstrations, costumed theatrical interpretation and 
curricula-based school programs. The Programmer will schedule, train and 
supervise volunteer and casual staff, maintain statistical records, and 
assist with the development and distribution of promotional materials. 
 The work includes working effectively with students, teachers, 
representatives of community groups, as well as working alongside 
program volunteers and Museum and Archives staff members.

 

The North Vancouver Museum and Archives operates from three heritage 
buildings including the Museum Galleries in Presentation House Arts 
Centre, the Community History Centre and PGE Railway station.  The 
Heritage Programmer is responsible for maintaining and assisting with 
the development of excellent programs and promotional activities, and 
for ensuring all three facilities provide a high quality of visitor 
service and interaction.    

 


    *_Qualifications_*

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and/or coursework in 
history, with additional coursework in theatre or public history, are 
desirable, as is previous experience in a museum or historic site 
setting and a demonstrated interest in local history. Excellent 
interpersonal skills, academic record, written and oral communication 
skills, experience working with and supervising volunteers and staff, 
and a desire to help others pursue their history interests are 
required.  The successful candidate will be familiar with heritage 
interpretation, program delivery and teaching methods; and have a 
demonstrated ability to track details and meet deadlines.  Strong 
computer skills and valid B.C. Drivers License, with a safe driving 
history, are required.  Canadian residents only need apply.  Completion 
of a criminal record check will be required.

 


    *_Hours and Salary_*

This is a permanent full-time position of 35 hours per week.  Winter 
work week is Tuesday to Saturday; summer work week is Wednesday to 
Sunday.  This position is compensated at Pay Grade 17-1 ($21.40 per 
hour), with a full range of benefits after completion of qualifying 
periods.
