*HCF Congratulates Former Board Member Christina Cameron *

*on receiving a Public Service Achievement Award*

Ottawa, ON – March 7, 2008 – The Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) 
congratulates Dr. Christina Cameron on receiving the Outstanding 
Achievement Award of the Public Service of Canada from Prime Minister 
Stephen Harper for her exceptional 35-year career with Parks Canada.

In her various roles as the director general of the National Historic 
Sites program, and secretary to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board 
of Canada, *Christina Cameron* has been instrumental in creating public 
policies and programs to support the protection of Canada’s historic 
built environment. She was a central player in the Historic Places 
Initiative, a unique federal/provincial/territorial collaboration 
designed to create a culture of conservation across Canada. In her most 
recent appointment as chair of UNESCO’s World Heritage 
Committee—which is responsible for implementing an international 
agreement that aims to protect places that are considered to be of 
outstanding universal value―she has advanced Canada’s reputation as 
a world leader in the protection of natural and cultural heritage.

“National recognition is well warranted for the role Dr. Cameron has 
played in building Canada’s system of heritage programs, institutions, 
tools and measures,� remarked executive director Natalie Bull, 
speaking from HCF headquarters in Ottawa. Dr. Cameron served on the 
board of directors of the Heritage Canada Foundation from 1991 to 1995.

In 2005, Dr. Cameron was appointed the Canada Research Chair on Built 
Heritage at the University of Montréal, where she currently holds a 
full-time teaching position.

Achievement awards were also presented to Philip H. Amundson, Canada 
Food Inspection Agency, Denis Comeau, Foreign Affairs and International 
Trade Canada, Michael Horgan, Environment Canada and Dr. Calvin Wayne 
Lindwall, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The Heritage Canada Foundation is a national, membership-based, 
non-profit organization with a mandate to promote the preservation 
of Canada’s historic buildings and places.

Ottawa, (Ontario) – Le 7 mars 2008 – La fondation Héritage Canada 
(FHC) félicite Christina Cameron, ancien membre du Conseil 
d’administration, qui a reçu du premier ministre Stephen Harper le 
Prix pour services insignes de la fonction publique du Canada, 
soulignant ainsi sa carrière exceptionnelle de 35 ans à Parcs Canada.

Dans ses diverses fonctions à titre de directrice générale du 
programme des lieux historiques nationaux et de secrétaire de la 
Commission des lieux et monuments historiques du Canada, *Christina 
Cameron* a contribué à l’élaboration de programmes et de politiques 
publiques visant à appuyer la protection du patrimoine historique bâti 
du Canada. Elle a joué un rôle central dans l’Initiative des 
endroits historiques, un projet unique de collaboration 
fédérale-provinciale-territoriale destiné à créer une culture de la 
conservation partout au Canada. Dans sa plus récente nomination comme 
présidente du Comité du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO, dont la 
tâche est d’appliquer une entente internationale ayant pour but de 
protéger les endroits ayant une valeur universelle exceptionnelle – 
elle a contribué à accroître la réputation du Canada à titre de chef 
mondial pour la protection du patrimoine naturel et culturel.

« Une reconnaissance nationale du rôle que M^me Cameron a joué 
dans l’édification du système de programmes, 
d’établissements, d’outils et de mesures à l’égard du patrimoine 
du Canada est amplement justifiée », a souligné Natalie Bull, 
directrice générale, parlant du siège social de la FHC à Ottawa. M^me 
Cameron a siégé au Conseil d’administration de la fondation 
HĂ©ritage Canada de 1991 Ă 1995.

En 2005, M^me Cameron a été nommée à la Chaire de recherche du Canada 
en patrimoine bâti à l’Université de Montréal, où elle occupe 
actuellement un poste d’enseignement à plein temps.

Un Prix pour services insignes a aussi été présenté à Philip H. 
Amundson, Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments, Denis Comeau, 
Affaires étrangères et Commerce international Canada, Michael Horgan, 
Environnement Canada, et Calvin Wayne Lindwall, Agriculture et 
Agroalimentaire Canada

La fondation HĂ©ritage Canada est un organisme de bienfaisance Ă 
vocation nationale qui repose sur ses membres. Son mandat consiste Ă
