/EDU: the Canadian school portal for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games needs sample school projects
/EDU is an online, bilingual e-magazine and portal created by the
Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee. You can find
it at www.vancouver2010.com/edu. It’s designed as a site where teachers
and students can connect to the Olympic and Paralympic Movements and
with the three pillars of the movements: sport, culture and sustainability.
With the support of the BC Ministry of Education, /EDU is including a
School Showcase highlighting class projects created in the Olympic
spirit – “improving ourselves, our communities and our world.” In order
to assist teachers who may wish to submit projects to the Web site and
to get the ball rolling with classroom content to /EDU, VANOC is asking
for sample classroom projects that fall within the categories of sport,
culture, sustainability, Vancouver 2010, and the Olympic and Paralympic
Games.
We are looking for projects at the elementary and secondary levels on a
range of categories in either English or French. These sample projects
may be documented with photos, audio samples, or video. This is open to
teachers throughout British Columbia. We can offer hands-on assistance
to help document class projects for teachers in the lower mainland, and
we can give telephone and email support to those teachers elsewhere in BC.
If you are working with teachers on a suitable project or if there is
something coming up that you think the teachers would like to put
online, please contact us or forward this information. We are looking
for responses by email or phone by Monday, March 17th. We would like the
responses to include: a short description of the project, the grade
level, the kind of documentation that can be provided, and contact
information. This is a great opportunity for students to share in the
Olympic and Paralympic spirit and for your collaborations with teachers
and students to appear in a high-profile international Web site.
