The theft of Harold Mann's boxing medals continues to be a source of pain not only for Harold and his family but for the entire community of Prince George. Perhaps since the theft in my own institution I am simply paying more attention but there seems to be an increasing number of thefts from museums in BC. This latest assault is perhaps the most spectacular but any theft from a museum is an attack on a community. How do we balance the need to provide access to the collections with need for security? I don't pretend to have the answers but I think it's a discussion we need to have. I have been struggling with this question ever since the Mann medals were stolen from the Exploration Place. My heart goes out to everyone at MOA. This kind of theft is incredibly unsettling for your staff and volunteers as well as for your Board. It's been over a year here and the theft is still discussed every day in my administration and at each board meeting. I hope these objects find their way back safely to you... To all of us really.

This is like the theft of Harold Mann's hockey medals from Exploration Place
in Prince George. Terrible.
