  VISUAL ART PROGRAMS ASSISTANT


  (COMMUNITY SERVICES ASSISTANT 5)


  (Regular Part-time – up to 28 hrs/wk – includes some evenings & weekends)

Reporting to the Curator of Education and Public Programs, this is a 
specialized senior Community Service Assistant position, responsible for 
carrying out a variety of organizational, educational and administrative 
responsibilities related to planning, developing and implementing visual 
art programs at the Surrey Art Gallery. Included are courses and 
workshops, ceramics studio operations, art camps, public programs, 
outreach and events, as well as related volunteer activities. Working as 
part of a team, you will also assist with the day-to-day operations of 
related programs and services, including budget and facility operations.

Duties may include: recommending, researching, developing, scheduling, 
implementing and evaluating courses, programs and events; identifying, 
recruiting, supervising and evaluating program instructors and course 
presenters; working with community groups and individuals to develop, 
deliver or facilitate programs and services; liaising with program 
participants; liaising with administration staff regarding registration, 
scheduling, customer service and set up for related programs; liaising 
with the volunteer coordinator to identify program volunteer needs and 
assisting with volunteer orientation and supervision; assisting 
marketing staff to develop marketing plans and materials; administering 
budgets and contracts; maintaining statistics on attendance, program 
revenue and expenses; and writing reports.

We are seeking individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic arts 
environment and thrive in situations requiring adaptability to change 
and meeting deadlines. The successful candidate will be a creative, 
detail-oriented individual with strong knowledge and experience in art 
education theories and practices; a broad knowledge of visual art; 
strong oral communication skills; solid organizational, interpersonal 
and problem-solving skills and will have the ability to work both 
independently and within a team.

Applicants must have a degree/diploma in the area of art education, 
visual arts, or a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible 
experience in the area of specialty, including supervision, or an 
equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience. Experience 
in developing and presenting programs in art education is preferred. 
Applicants must have a valid BC driver’s license, Emergency First Aid 
certificate with CPR, and be able to successfully pass a Criminal Record 
Check.
